Microsoft offers stability update for Internet Explorer 9 Beta
Microsoft has offered up the first Internet Explorer 9 patch via Windows Update. KB2448827 is all about improving reliability and stability, and you should be able to find it on your Update screen by clicking through to view optional updates (or by navigating to Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\Select updates to install in Explorer). It’s a little odd to see Microsoft do this — they’re typically not big on delivering patches to beta apps the way competitors like Google and Mozilla do. Perhaps there’s a paradigm shift underway in Redmond.

If you’re looking for some real IE9-related excitement, the recently-leaked Internet Explorer 9 beta 2 (which may, in fact, be an RC build) might be more up your alley. It’s floating around the usual places you find ‘community releases’ of Microsoft apps.

8 Keyboard Shortcuts for Internet Explorer 9

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 is a modern, fast, and efficient web browser that will speed up the web for its users.

But, if you really want to get the most out of this new and vastly improved web browser, you’ve got to take advantage of keyboard shortcuts. Every browser has keyboard shortcuts. Some shortcuts are universally recognized. Some are unique to a specific browser, but every shortcut will save you time and help you navigate the web more quickly.
Ctrl + T : Open a New Tab

Hold down the Ctrl button, mash the “T” key, and IE9 will open a new browser tab.

If you’re like many modern Internet users, you often have several browser tabs open and in use. For example, your ecommerce store’s admin panel, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, and your product management system (think Basecamp or JIRA) are probably all open at once. So when you want to look up something on Bing or Google, or if you want to check something on Wikipedia, use this shortcut to open a new tab without having to move your hand to your mouse.
Ctrl + Tab : Step Through Tabs

As the day wears on, you may find yourself with dozens of tabs open. You still need most of these, but moving between tabs is starting to be a struggle. What to do? Try holding down Ctrl and pressing the Tab key. In IE9, this will step through all of the open tabs, helping you to jump quickly from one page to another.
Ctrl +(1 to 8) : Leap to a Specific Tab

If the tab you want to switch to happens to be one of the first eight, simply hold down the Ctrl key and press the corresponding number key. IE9 will leap directly to the tab you select.

This is especially helpful if you are working on a task that requires you to switch back and forth between two specific tabs.
Ctrl + 9 : Makes the Last Tab Active

Another helpful shortcut, holding down the Ctrl key and pressing 9, will make the very last tab active. Similar to the shortcut mentioned above, this one is great for leaping to the end of the line, so to speak.
Ctrl + Alt + F4 : Close All Tabs But One

Trojan Modifies Firefox to Store Passwords; Infiltrates Protected Storage Area

In a recent blog post, Webroot warned of a Firefox Trojan that forces the browser to save all login credentials by default and subsequently uses the stolen information to create a new user account (username: Maestro) on the compromised machine. It then sniffs out sensitive user data (data forms and login details) from the Windows Protected Storage Area. The data stolen from here is faithfully shipped out to a server once every minute.

The Trojan’s author Salar “Salixem” Zeynali is an Iran-based crimeware hobbyist and heavy metal enthusiast, according to his Facebook profile. With Zeylani choosing his real name above a nom de plume to take credit for the malware, Webroot clearly didn’t have to work too hard to get to him.

“His Facebook profile indicates he lives in Karaj, Iran; He sports an emo haircut, and likes heavy metal music and programming. And, apparently, Zeynali writes crimeware for fun, because he doesn’t sell his keylogger. He offers a keylogger creator tool as a free download from the message board he hangs out on,” Webroot’s Andrew Brandt wrote in the blog post.

“Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who frequent the same message board Zeynali uses to post his keylogger code, and some of those people have clearly been using the keylogger creator tool Zeynali built to create and distribute Trojans.”

Fortinet’s Report Highlights Sasfis Variants, Malicious JavaScript Attacks

Security firm Fortinet recently announced its June 2010 Threat Landscape report, according to which Sasfis botnet’s new variations have made an entry into the Top 10 list.

Sasfis, which was seen giving a tough fight to the Pushdo botnet, in terms of volume, was found very activity in June 2010.

As per Derek Manky, project manager, cyber security and threat research, Fortinet, the firm noticed Sasfis loading a spambot component that was majorly used for sending out its own binary copies in a violent seeding campaign, reported Market Watch on June 30, 2010.

The socially-engineered e-mails of Sasfis had mainly two themes, noted Fortinet. One of them appeared as a bogus UPS Invoice attachment while the other was concealed in the form of a fees statement. More-or-less similar to the Bredolab and Pushdo botnets, this botnet is a downloader – spambot being one of the various components downloaded.
