Search Engine Marketing — Business Breakfast Talk

Belfast. Join the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce and UMaine Hutchinson Center for their monthly Business Breakfast series: Toast & Talk, on Tuesday, Oct. 14th from 8 to 9 am. (Networking and Breakfast begin at 7:30 am).

This month our speaker is Lawrence Hollins, Marketing Manager ~ Down East Magazine & Online, presenting “Search Engine Marketing 101″. It’s not enough to just have a web site. People need to know you’re there. Once they find you, they need to engage and, ultimately, purchase something. And you want them to come back again and again, as well as tell others about their great experience.

This selling sequence should sound familiar to anyone running a retail store. It’s not new, frankly. What is new is the medium of the Internet. With all the emerging marketing platforms, social networking sites like Facebook and RSS feeds, among others, online marketing has become a moving target, and a fast-moving one at that. Admittedly, we’re all playing catch-up… and probably will for a long time coming. The good news is that it’s not like learning rocket science to get in the game. But you can waste a lot of time and money if you overlook the basics.

In this highly focused workshop, you’ll learn those basics and the latest techniques for getting recognized by the major search engines (e.g., Google, Yahoo, etc.) along with other low-cost, practical methods for bringing traffic to your website.

Lawrence Hollins has been developing and implementing successful marketing programs for more than 10 years. He started with the high-tech industry amid the dot-com boom years of the 90s, then wended his way through the non-profit world to land in the publishing industry here in Maine. At Down East, Lawrence is responsible for marketing the magazine and website. He specializes in promoting downeast.com through sales programs and search engine optimization (aka, SEO).

The University of Maine Hutchinson Center and the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsors of the Business Breakfast series, Toast & Talk (formerly called Eggs & Issues.) The program runs from 8 to 9 am (with networking and breakfast from 7:30 to 8:00 am).
