Firefox 3.1 Alpha 2 Offers Cutting-Edge Web Standards SupportFirefox 3.1 Alpha 2 Offers Cutting-Edge Web Standards Support

Mozilla has released a second Firefox 3.1 alpha preview, incorporating some new under-the-hood improvements like HTML 5 video tag support, more CSS 3 properties and improved performance.

Firefox 3.1 alpha 2 is still rough around the edges though and is intended for developers, not everyday users. Alpha 2 also lacks some of the standout features scheduled to land in the final release of Firefox 3.1, like the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine.

Windows beta released September 2. Mac OS X and Linux versions still under development and said to be coming soon. No indication of targeted full release date.

“Well, any sites reported as broken in the last three months? Yeah… you might want to report it again,” suggests Mozilla engineer Mark Smith on his personal blog.

During the extremely busy Firefox 3 launch day, which brought many Mozilla servers to their knees, the reporting tool
